Which came first? The Wristwatch or the Pocketwatch?

Which came first? The Wristwatch or the Pocketwatch? Well, unlike the old chicken and egg question, this time, we actually know the answer. The classic pocketwatch was the most common type of watch, from the minute it was developed back in the 16th century, up until wristwatches came around the early 20th century.

Actually, the earliest pocket watch reference we can find is in a letter sent on November 1462 by an Italian clockmaker that offered his friend a new “Pocket Clock” unlike any other clock.

Pocket watches will forever stay classy, with their winning design of timeless quality, the everlasting chain that elegantly secures the watch to the suit, and the shiny metal cover that protects the face of the timepiece.

Interesting fact: During the 19th century and the rise of the railroad tracks, pocket watches became a must for each and every railroad employee. You’ve probably heard about the famous 1891 train wrack that happened in Ohio because an engineers’ pocket watch stopped working for a couple of minuets. After this incident, the American Railroad Association created a list of high standards for their pocket watches, a list that led to the creation of the “railroad-grade” pocketwatches.

Take a look at this beautiful time piece that keeps the tradition of the railroad grade watch, with unique design and state-of-the-art quality:
